Neanderthals
There are arguments that whether Neanderthals could have
speeches or not.
To begin with , the reading states that Neanderthals had
bigger brain than human's brain, which means they had larger
cranial capacity than those of human's. Therefore most of
anthropologists think that they must have been able to speak. On the other hand, the lecturer states that they could not speak.
Dispite the fact that Neanderthals had bigger brain than those
of human's, that does not mean that they could be able to
speak, but the complexity of brain decides it.
Also, reading clares that they had hyoid bone which connects
the muscles between the larynx and the tongue. It aloowed
Neanderthals to control their tongue, which indicates that they
were be able to speak. However, the lecturer claims that this
bone does not guarantee that they could speak. For example,
several monkeys also have that bone, but they can not speak at
all.
Finally, the reading states that various muscles in stomach areas let them be able to speak. These muscle allowed them to
create the sounds necessary for speech. But the lecturer states
that these muscles they had do not mean that they could speak.
Those of muscle only helped them breathe more effectively
because they had lived in the place where had harsh climate, and sometimes they had to travel long distances or to climb
mountains. |
